Kraken launches cash-settled bitcoin and ether options in USD
The exchange is rolling out the contracts on Kraken Pro first via request-for-quote, with an eventual European expansion.
Kraken has introduced USD-settled options on bitcoin and ether on its Kraken Pro platform, making the products available initially through a request-for-quote model, according to CoinDesk.
The firm said the contracts are European-style and cash-settled, with availability extending to eligible international clients outside Europe, North America, and Australia, while a European rollout is planned for a later date.
Kraken said crypto options have lagged because earlier products were designed primarily for institutional participation, leaving retail traders less served, and it framed the launch as an initial step toward expanding the broader crypto options market.
CoinDesk reports Kraken plans to broaden access further by adding an order book, expanding geographic availability, and increasing the range of assets offered as competition for crypto derivatives offerings continues.
