Netanyahu office condemns New York mayor over proposed UN arrest remarks

The dispute follows the mayor’s comments about whether he could arrest Netanyahu in New York ahead of a UN summit.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani after Mamdani said he was considering whether to arrest Netanyahu during a coming United Nations summit, according to SCMP Economy citing comments reported by The New York Times.

In a post on its official X account, Netanyahu’s office told Mamdani to focus on addressing harm it said his policies have caused in New York.

Mamdani previously said he believes Netanyahu belongs in The Hague, and characterized Netanyahu as a war criminal charged by the International Criminal Court.

Mamdani also stated that whatever he is legally allowed to do in New York City would be what he does.
