Trump says Aberdeen would embrace new North Sea oil drilling
The incoming UK prime minister has not confirmed reports about approving new fossil fuel production in the North Sea Rosebank and Jackdaw fields.
US President Donald Trump said residents of Aberdeen would be “dancing in the streets” if Britain’s incoming prime minister, Andy Burnham, backs new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, after media reports linked Burnham to potential approvals for additional fossil fuel production.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed Burnham had said he would support such drilling, though the incoming prime minister has not confirmed the reports.
Trump, who is a vocal supporter of fossil fuels, said further North Sea drilling would help lift the UK from what he described as a poverty-related disaster to one of the richest countries.
He also criticized wind power, saying the UK would need to address wind turbines near Aberdeen, which he described as looming over and harming the city.
