AZ-COM Maruwa to pay partners in yen stablecoin JPYC

The Tokyo-listed logistics firm plans to use JPYC to settle fees and other payments to about 2,300 partners, including truck drivers, in Japan.

CoinDesk reports that AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, a Tokyo-listed logistics company that distributes products for Amazon Japan, plans to start using the regulated yen stablecoin JPYC for payments to its business partners.

The company said it intends to pay about 2,300 partners, including subcontractors and truck drivers, using JPYC in its day-to-day operations, marking the first large-scale corporate stablecoin rollout in Japan, according to the report. JPYC is pegged to the yen on a 1:1 basis and is issued under regulation.

JPYC is fully backed by bank deposits and Japanese government bonds, and it launched in October under Japan's Payment Services Act. The article also says JPYC’s onchain circulation surpassed 2 billion yen as of last week.

Nikkei Asia, as cited by CoinDesk, said the move is designed to improve cash flow for drivers and small carriers amid labor shortages, an aging workforce, and tighter overtime rules, with an emphasis on near-instant and free conversions back to yen. The plan comes after a Lawson pilot for JPYC payments at its Takanawa Gateway location.
