China fuel oil exports surge to 2026 high as shipping demand rebounds

Last month’s fuel oil exports were 18% higher than June 2025, while overall refined product exports fell to 4.36 million tons, down 18.3% year over year.

China exported 577,000 barrels per day of fuel oil last month, the highest since the start of the year and 18% above June 2025, according to official customs data cited by Reuters.

Reuters also reported that China’s broader refined products exports declined because shipments of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel remained limited by government restrictions.

The total refined products figure stood at 4.36 million tons, an 18.3% year-over-year decline, while fuel oil exports over the first half of 2026 rose 7.7% annually to 10.87 million metric tons.

Fuel oil is largely used for shipping, and Reuters said demand improved on lower prices and was particularly noticeable in the second half of the month, with fuel oil imports in June also recovering from a record low in May.
