Cardano activates Van Rossem hard fork via community vote
The upgrade reached protocol version 11 with zero downtime and reduces Plutus smart contract execution costs, according to Decrypt.
Cardano activated the Van Rossem hard fork on July 18, moving the network to protocol version 11 with zero downtime, according to Decrypt.
The upgrade is the first major Cardano protocol change that was ratified entirely through on-chain community governance, without Input Output, the blockchain's founding development company, directing the process.
Van Rossem is designed to lower Plutus smart contract execution costs and includes five technical improvements, such as new cryptographic tools and a security fix requiring every stake pool to use a unique cryptographic key.
Three governance bodies signed off on the move, with delegated representatives approving it at 77.63%, stake pool operators backing it at 52.7%, and the Constitutional Committee also approving the proposal.
