North Korea foreign minister meets Putin in Moscow amid Ukraine aid
Putin thanked North Korea for sending troops to Russia’s Kursk region, according to Kremlin reporting.
North Korea’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, met Vladimir Putin in Moscow, with analysts expecting the talks to cover further ammunition and missile shipments linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine, while also setting up the possibility of a visit by Kim Jong-un, according to SCMP Economy.
The meeting took place more than two years after Putin invited Kim to Moscow during their June 2024 summit in Pyongyang.
SCMP Economy also notes that Putin expressed fresh gratitude for North Korea’s assistance in Russia’s “special military operation” and referenced a decision to send soldiers of the Korean People’s Army to take part in operations in the Kursk region.
According to TASS reporting cited by SCMP Economy, Putin said North Korean troops had been awarded Russian state decorations, and the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was cited regarding the quotes.
