Tether Gold gains Accepted Spot Commodity status in Abu Dhabi

ADGM’s recognition expands the tokenized gold product lineup, as Tether Gold’s total value locked has more than tripled over the past year to about $2.86 billion.

Tether Gold, the tokenized gold asset known as XAUT, has been recognized as an Accepted Spot Commodity in the Abu Dhabi Global Market, according to Cointelegraph. The designation allows regulated firms in ADGM to offer services tied to the tokenized gold asset, provided they hold the required regulatory permissions.

Cointelegraph reports the update follows ADGM’s earlier acceptance of Tether’s USDT as an Accepted Fiat Referenced Token, extending Tether’s regulated offerings in the Middle East financial center. ADGM said it would support business growth by widening products and services for companies operating in ADGM, while Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the designation gives regulated firms a clearer path to offer XAUT.

Cointelegraph cites DefiLlama data showing Tether Gold’s total value locked has more than tripled in a year, rising from about $826 million to roughly $2.86 billion. The article also notes that new use cases are emerging beyond trading and custody, including Ledn’s plan to add XAUT as loan collateral later this year.

Finally, Cointelegraph says RWA.xyz estimates tokenized commodities have a distributed value of about $4.46 billion and represent nearly 13% of the roughly $34.73 billion tokenized real-world asset market. The recognition in ADGM comes as tokenized commodities continue to gain broader adoption across regulated channels.
