TSMC plans another $100 billion Arizona foundry investment

The expansion will back advanced packaging and 2-nanometer chip manufacturing that TSMC began selling in the second quarter, and it raises its Arizona total to $265 billion across up to 12 facilities.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, TSMC, said it will invest an additional $100 billion in its foundries in Arizona, lifting its total Arizona investment to $265 billion across up to 12 separate facilities, according to Yahoo Finance.

Speaking during the company’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO C.C. Wei said the new spending is intended to support advanced packaging fabs and the manufacturing of 2-nanometer chips, which TSMC began selling in the second quarter.

TSMC reported second-quarter revenue of $40.2 billion, up 33.7% year over year and 12% sequentially, while net income rose 77.8% from a year ago to $22.36 billion.

The company also expects revenue growth to accelerate through the end of the year, calling for third-quarter revenue in the range of $44.6 billion to $45 billion.
