US official links any Iran ceasefire to continued maximum pressure

The comments say military and economic pressure will continue until Trump decides otherwise, keeping geopolitical risk elevated for crude oil and shipping via the Strait of Hormuz.

Forexlive reports a U.S. official said any potential ceasefire with Iran is secondary to the Trump administration’s goal of holding Tehran accountable for alleged violations of a memorandum of understanding, continued actions in the Strait of Hormuz, and recent deaths of U.S. soldiers.

The official added that military and economic pressure will continue until the President decides otherwise, even as diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran are reportedly still ongoing.

The U.S.-Iran posture is relevant for markets because the strategy keeps geopolitical risk elevated, particularly for crude oil, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and broader risk sentiment.

Separately, the Israeli military said it will respond forcefully to any violation of the current agreement, and it announced a new pilot program for designated security zones in southern Lebanon that began on Monday and is coordinated with the U.S. military and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
