Block launches Buzz, a decentralized group chat on the Nostr protocol

Block said the Buzz interface will feel familiar to teams used to mainstream group chat tools, and it positioned Buzz as an open alternative to proprietary platforms like Slack.

Bitcoin Magazine reports that Jack Dorsey-owned Block has debuted Buzz, a decentralized group chat platform intended to reduce teams’ reliance on centralized tools such as Slack.

The company said Buzz is built on the decentralized social networking Nostr protocol, with an interface it described as familiar to users of modern team communication software.

Bitcoin Magazine also notes that Block framed the push as part of its broader decentralization efforts, with Buzz designed to be open rather than proprietary.

Block, parent of Square and Cash App, said Buzz reflects its view that “humans and agents” need a shared place to work together, with a focus on keeping that space open.
