CENTCOM says strikes targeted Iran command centers and air defenses
The statement came as WTI was 0.4% lower below $82, according to the same outlet, and CENTCOM said it had supported about 900 vessel transits since early May.
US Central Command said it completed its latest strikes at 1AM GMT Tuesday, targeting Iranian military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems, according to FXStreet.
CENTCOM said the purpose was to reduce Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, and it added that commercial vessel transits through the corridor were continuing.
The outlet also noted CENTCOM had helped facilitate about 900 commercial vessel transits and around 450 million barrels of crude oil since early May, and said US forces remain positioned to hold Iran accountable for attacks on civilian mariners.
FXStreet said oil appeared largely unchanged by the headlines, with WTI extending a pullback below $82, down 0.4% on the day at the time of writing, and it provided general context on how markets can shift between risk-on and risk-off behavior.
