New Zealand CPI rises to 4.1% YoY in Q2, ahead of 4.0% forecast

NZD/USD was up 0.06% to 0.5845 after the CPI print, with quarterly inflation jumping to 1.5% from 0.9%.

New Zealand’s Consumer Price Index rose to 4.1% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, topping the 4.0% forecast in the market consensus, according to data published by Statistics New Zealand and summarized by FXStreet.

The report also showed quarterly CPI inflation accelerating to 1.5% in Q2 from 0.9% in the prior quarter, ahead of the 1.4% expected level.

Following the release, NZD/USD was trading 0.06% higher at 0.5845, as traders digested the higher-than-expected inflation readings.

FXStreet noted that inflation outcomes can influence currency moves because central banks may adjust interest rates in response to inflation, which affects capital flows and the relative appeal of a currency.
