Pakistan creates federal unit to investigate crypto-linked cybercrime
The new FIA unit will focus on crypto use in cybercrime and financial fraud, while PVARA remains responsible for regulating digital assets.
Pakistan has created a dedicated investigative unit within its Federal Investigation Agency to probe cybercrime and financial fraud linked to cryptocurrency, according to Cointelegraph.
The unit, first reported by Dawn, is set to investigate how digital assets are used in criminal cases, while Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority will continue to handle digital asset regulation.
Cointelegraph reports that FIA Counter-Terrorism Wing Director Muhammad Athar Waheed recommended other agencies in the country establish similar units to tackle crypto-related crime.
The move follows the creation of PVARA in July 2025, which has already approved licenses for major exchanges including Binance and HTX.
