U.S. condemns China over injured Philippine sailor in disputed shoal incident

The latest flare-up comes ahead of Rubio's planned Manila visit and meetings with Southeast Asian foreign ministers, with China's Wang Yi also expected to attend.

CNBC reports the United States condemned what it called China's dangerous and aggressive actions after a Philippine sailor was injured at a disputed shoal.

The outlet says the incident occurred amid rising tensions and before U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to travel to Manila for meetings of Southeast Asian foreign ministers.

CNBC adds that Chinese diplomat Wang Yi is also expected to be in attendance for the Manila talks.
