Worldcoin’s WLD rises after Grayscale files for spot ETF

If approved, the proposed Grayscale Worldcoin ETF would hold WLD, trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD, and track the CoinDesk Worldcoin Benchmark Rate.

Grayscale filed an S-1 with the SEC to launch what it says would be the first U.S. exchange traded fund tied to Worldcoin, the biometric crypto project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The product would be a passive vehicle that holds WLD, Worldcoin’s native token, and is designed to track its price through the CoinDesk Worldcoin Benchmark Rate, according to the filing.

Following the filing, WLD rose about 8% over 24 hours to an intraday high of $0.387. Even with the jump, the token was still down roughly 5.5% over the past week, based on CoinGecko data cited by Decrypt.

The ETF would list on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD using the exchange’s generic listing standards for commodity based trusts, which would allow it to launch without a separate SEC rule change once WLD meets Nasdaq’s eligibility criteria. The filing names BitGo Bank & Trust as custodian and BNY Mellon as transfer agent and administrator.

Worldcoin uses an Orb device to scan users’ irises and issue a World ID intended to verify a person is human. The project has faced regulatory scrutiny over its biometric data collection in the EU and in countries including Brazil and Kenya, as reported by Decrypt.
