The Nifty 50 closed 0.21% down at 24,186, while the S&P BSE Sensex finished 0.30% lower at 77,480. Broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 rising as much as 0.53%.

Sector performance was mixed, with Nifty Chemicals, Nifty Cement, and Nifty Realty each gaining more than 1%, while Nifty Metal and Nifty Pharma also ended in the green.

On the downside, the Nifty PSU Bank index slid 0.88% and the Nifty IT index fell 0.61%.
