Bitcoin holds near $66,300 as yen slides and chip stocks extend gains

Bitcoin was up nearly 1% on the day and traded about $65,400 to $66,900, with roughly $31 billion in 24-hour turnover as the yen weakened past 163 per dollar.

Bitcoin held near $66,300, consolidating a two-week high, as trading volumes stayed robust and large price moves in major tokens were relatively muted, according to CoinDesk. The outlet said the latest leg higher was tied more to a broad semiconductor rally than to a crypto-specific catalyst.

Bitcoin rose nearly 1% on the day and about 3% on the week, with about $31 billion changing hands. Its 24-hour range ran roughly from $65,400 to $66,900, while ether traded near $1,935, up 3% on the week.

CoinDesk also pointed to market action beyond crypto, noting the semiconductor theme extended into a second session. MSCI’s Asia Pacific equities gauge rose 1%, and South Korea’s Kospi jumped 5%, with Samsung and SK Hynix leading following strength in a U.S. semiconductor gauge.

In currencies, the yen slid past 163 per dollar for the first time since 1986, with the report attributing the move to mounting currency stress despite Japanese intervention efforts. CoinDesk cited Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama saying authorities remain ready to take bold steps, while higher U.S. Treasury yields, a stronger dollar, and rising oil tied to the Iran conflict overwhelmed those efforts.
