Crypto ‘wrench attacks’ persist as targeted value rises, CertiK warns

CertiK says the total number of identified incidents has climbed to 52, with the value targeted in some attacks increasing more than tenfold.

Cybersecurity firm CertiK says so-called crypto “wrench attacks” are continuing, where attackers use information about a person’s routines and holdings to pressure victims to transfer funds.

According to The Block, CertiK linked the risk to how public information can connect an individual’s identity, location, or routine to their crypto activity.

CertiK recommends reducing the amount of public information that could make that connection, including details that can reveal where or when someone might hold or use crypto.

The Block reported that CertiK put the total number of such incidents at 52 and said the value targeted in the attacks has jumped more than tenfold.
