Malaysia rejects calls to review ties with Washington over Israeli entry ban

Malaysia said its decades-old policy bars Israeli nationals and is not aimed at Jews, after US lawmakers urged a review of security and economic ties following Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks.

Malaysia will not change its decades-old policy that does not allow Israeli nationals into the country, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Wednesday, adding that the stance does not violate any international laws. Anwar said the policy is against the presence of Israeli citizens, describing them as complicit in what he characterized as crimes and oppression in Palestine and Gaza. He made the comments after a “Jelajah Rakan Muda” programme, according to SCMP Economy. The remarks followed a Tuesday call from several US lawmakers for Washington to review its security and economic ties with Malaysia after Anwar said he would deport dual citizenship holding Israeli nationals in the country.
