Rubio warns Iranian control of Strait of Hormuz would set a precedent
FXStreet said the remarks did not produce an immediate move in the US Dollar, with the US Dollar Index near 101.15.
FXStreet reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Southeast Asian foreign ministers that Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage critical to nearly 20% of global energy supply, would set a dangerous precedent with wider repercussions beyond the Middle East.
In remarks carried by FXStreet, Rubio warned that allowing a nation-state to control an international waterway, charge a toll, and threaten shipping would create a precedent that could be repeated elsewhere, including in the region.
FXStreet also said the US Dollar saw no immediate impact after Rubio’s comments, with the US Dollar Index (DXY) trading marginally lower around 101.15 at the time of writing.
