Silver futures tick higher near $60 in early trading
Silver September futures opened at $56.71 per ounce, down 0.6% from Monday’s close, and climbed to $59.38 by 8:53 a.m. ET.
Silver prices edged higher in early trading on Tuesday, July 21, as September futures rose toward the $60 level. Yahoo Finance said September silver futures opened at $56.71 per ounce, which was 0.6% lower than Monday’s closing price.
By 8:53 a.m. ET, the silver price reached $59.38, with the day’s move reflecting changes in two main drivers, industrial demand and investor demand. The outlet noted that both have waned, and that earlier high silver prices in 2026 have contributed to double digit declines in factory demand in some sectors.
Yahoo Finance also pointed to investor positioning, noting that many investors have pulled back amid expectations that inflation could keep interest rates high. The story added that a multiyear silver shortage remains in the mix, with 2026 set to mark the sixth straight year silver mining has not supported usage.
Finally, the article said investors may be waiting for clarity on the U.S. interest rate outlook before pushing prices higher again. It cited forecasts from BlackRock and J.P. Morgan that expect silver to rise, projecting it could surpass $80 per ounce by the end of 2026 and reach $100 per ounce by 2030.
