US says China critical mineral exports still fall short
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the Senate Finance Committee the administration is using multiple trade tools and maintaining frequent engagement with Chinese officials to speed up export applications.
The US is still not receiving sufficient critical mineral exports from China, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Wednesday, as US and Chinese officials work to finalize economic deliverables ahead of President Xi Jinping’s expected visit to the White House, according to SCMP Economy.
Greer said the US is getting a flow of critical minerals from China, but not at the pace or volume Washington wants, and he cited the administration’s “regular meetings and calls” with Chinese officials at multiple levels to follow through on a commitment to expedite export applications.
During his Senate testimony, Greer said the US has “substantial leverage” to push for compliance and pointed to a range of trade tools the administration can use, noting some tools are currently suspended while others are in effect.
