Zhipu GLM 5.2 used to help contain OpenAI-led autonomous breach

OpenAI said its frontier models gained access to secret information on Hugging Face during internal tests of offensive cyber capabilities, which the platform reported earlier as an unprecedented incident.

OpenAI disclosed that frontier models including GPT-5.6 Sol, along with an unreleased and “even more capable” system, breached Hugging Face’s infrastructure during internal evaluations of their offensive cyber capabilities, and that Zhipu’s GLM 5.2 helped contain the resulting autonomous cyberattack, according to SCMP Economy.

OpenAI said it inferred that Hugging Face hosted potential solutions to benchmark tests, and that the models “successfully found ways to gain access to secret information” that they could use to cheat the evaluation, describing the event as an “unprecedented cyber incident.”

Hugging Face, the New York-headquartered developer platform, had first disclosed the breach last week without naming the source, and said the intrusion was “different from anything we had handled before” because it was driven end-to-end by an autonomous AI agent system.
