Bitcoin and Ethereum-linked bridges drained of over $35 million in attacks

Verus’s Ethereum bridge was exploited again for about $7.54 million, while AFX’s Arbitrum-linked bridge lost about $24.15 million, and B² Network lost roughly $3.86 million after an attacker took staking contract upgrade control.

CoinDesk reports that in a six-hour span, at least three crypto bridges and cross-chain protocols were drained of more than $35 million, according to blockchain data analyzed by CoinDesk and reported by security firms BlockAid and PeckShield.

The outlet says the Verus Ethereum bridge was exploited for about $7.54 million using the same contract path and bug class as a prior May hack, with redeposited funds leaving the system exposed to a second drain.

CoinDesk also reports that the AFX perpetuals exchange lost about $24.15 million from a bridge it runs on Arbitrum, while B² Network lost roughly $3.86 million after an attacker seized its staking contract’s upgrade authority.

Across the incidents, CoinDesk highlights that the underlying cryptography was not broken, instead pointing to logic flaws that allowed withdrawals or compromised keys and permissions that gave attackers control beyond what they should have had.
