Coinbase expands USDC payments for AI agents via x402 standard
Coinbase Business will enable USDC acceptance through its x402 payment standard, alongside AI trading tools and a developer kit for agent-powered applications.
Coinbase is expanding its push into AI-powered finance by allowing businesses to accept USDC payments from autonomous AI agents, using its x402 payment standard, according to a Thursday post cited by Cointelegraph.
The update also includes AI trading tools that let users monitor orders, pull live market data, and execute predefined actions based on set conditions, plus a software development kit aimed at developers building agent-powered applications.
Coinbase said the tools are designed to support the “agentic economy,” where AI agents can make payments and manage finances on behalf of users.
The exchange tied the rollout to accelerating AI agent adoption, saying agent-generated traffic surpassed human traffic on its Base documentation pages for the first time last month.
