Man jailed for life over planned terror attack on UK Defence Academy
Prosecutors told the court the plan to target the Defence Academy was advanced and would have been deadly if carried out.
SCMP Economy reports that a UK court jailed Mohammad Bashir, 31, for life after he was found guilty of planning a separate terrorist attack with Jihad Al-Shamie.
According to the report, Al-Shamie carried out a knife attack last October targeting a mosque in northwestern Manchester, killing two people, and was later shot dead by police.
Prosecutors said there was no evidence Bashir was involved in the synagogue attack, but the court heard that last August Bashir drove Al-Shamie on a trip to spy on the UK’s Defence Academy in Swindon.
The judge, Bobbie Cheema-Grubb, said the plan to attack the Defence Academy in a manner broadly similar to the synagogue attack was advanced and would have been deadly if followed through.
