Northwestern University nears completion of new Ryan Field stadium
The $875 million, 35,000-seat privately funded redevelopment will open in October and feature a newly installed turf playing surface.
Northwestern University has provided an early look inside its nearly completed Ryan Field stadium, with tours offered months before the Wildcats officially return home.
The transformation is a privately funded project that is set to open this season, with the university scheduling the new Ryan Field to open in October when Northwestern hosts Penn State.
The redevelopment includes a newly installed turf playing surface, and Northwestern says the facility is designed to serve as a year-round asset for the community as well as a home for athletics.
Northwestern is partnering with Central Street Consortium, a joint venture between Turner Chicago and Walsh Construction, which is serving as the general contractor, after the university unveiled the replacement plans in 2022 following a $480 million donation from the Patrick and Shirley Ryan family.
