RenaissanceRe reports $599.1 million underwriting income in Q2 2026

The reinsurer posted a 72.8% combined ratio in the quarter, even as gross premiums written fell 12.5% year over year to $2.99 billion.

RenaissanceRe maintained what it described as underwriting discipline in a softer and more competitive reinsurance market in Q2 2026, with results supported by low catastrophe losses and favorable prior-year reserve development, according to Reinsurance News.

The company delivered $599.1 million of underwriting income and a 72.8% combined ratio in the quarter. That compares with underwriting income of $601.7 million and a 75.1% combined ratio in Q2 2025, while RenaissanceRe’s Q2 2026 net income fell 21% year over year to $654.2 million.

Operating income also declined slightly to $547.8 million from $594.6 million a year earlier. Gross premiums written dropped 12.5% year over year to $2.99 billion, while net premiums written fell 17.8% to $2.28 billion.

By segment, RenaissanceRe’s Property business generated $642.7 million of underwriting income, up from $630.2 million in the prior-year quarter, despite lower gross premiums written. The Property segment posted an improved 27.1% combined ratio, while the Casualty and Specialty segment remained in an underwriting loss position, with a combined ratio of 103.3% and an underwriting loss of $43.6 million.
