Strategy-led consortium pledges $15 million for Bitcoin quantum security
Founding members include BlackRock, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Blockstream, while Galaxy Digital pledged up to $5 million in grants for quantum-security developers.
Strategy, the firm associated with Michael Saylor, has announced the launch of the Bitcoin Security Consortium, a group of financial institutions and Bitcoin-related companies focused on securing the Bitcoin network against the risk of a quantum computing breakthrough.
The consortium said it will pledge an aggregate $15 million over the next three years to support developers working on quantum security, with day-to-day coordination led by Mike Schmidt in a volunteer capacity through his role as executive director of Brink.
Cointelegraph reports that founding members include Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy, and the effort is aimed at long-term support for developers securing the network.
The article also notes that Galaxy Digital pledged up to $5 million for developer grants tied to Bitcoin quantum security and formed a council of quantum-advisory experts to research quantum-resistant migration options, while the timeline for a breakthrough remains contested in the community, with differing views cited from Blockstream and Bernstein.
