U.S. DOJ to withdraw subpoenas targeting NYT reporters in Air Force One case
The move follows a judge pausing enforcement of the July 10 subpoenas and a court hearing scheduled for Thursday in Manhattan federal court.
The U.S. Justice Department will withdraw subpoenas it issued to New York Times journalists over reporting that raised security concerns about President Donald Trump flying on a Qatar-donated Air Force One, a prosecutor said at a court hearing in Manhattan, according to SCMP Economy.
The subpoenas, issued July 10 by Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, were tied to Times reporting that Trump left Turkey on the older Air Force One because a newer plane donated by Qatar lacked antimissile and other defensive features.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian paused enforcement of the subpoenas pending the Thursday hearing, and prosecutors asked the judge to keep the subpoenas on hold for two weeks while next steps in the investigation could affect his decision.
The case centers on whether journalists can be compelled to reveal sources, with the Times asking the judge to throw out the subpoenas, the outlet reported.
