Ukraine US sign statement of intent for combat drone exports
The framework is expected to create a pathway for land, air, and maritime drone testing in the United States, potentially feeding into future Pentagon procurement.
OilPrice said Ukraine and the United States have signed a bilateral statement of intent that sets the groundwork for expanded defense-industrial cooperation, including exporting Ukrainian combat drones to the US for military testing.
According to two anonymous sources cited by RFE/RL, the agreement is the first of its kind between the countries and follows months of negotiations aimed at giving the Pentagon rapid access to drone innovations developed during more than four years of full-scale war with Russia.
The statement of intent establishes a framework for future drone cooperation and is expected to enable exports covering land, air, and maritime drones for testing and evaluation, which the outlet said could inform future Pentagon procurement requirements.
OilPrice also reported that while the document is not a production contract, it is viewed as an initial step toward broader collaboration that could eventually include joint manufacturing of Ukrainian-designed combat drones on US soil.
