Cambodia vows tougher crackdown on transnational online scam networks
Prime Minister Hun Manet said authorities have shut down more than 670 illegal scam operations and warned the syndicates are adapting by splitting into smaller decentralized cells.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the country will intensify its crackdown on transnational online scam networks, warning that criminal syndicates have become more difficult to target as they fragment into smaller, decentralized units across the region, according to SCMP Economy.
Hun Manet told reporters that technology has helped scammers operate in a more decentralised manner, adding that Cambodia aims to make the country “not easy or worth staying” for scams.
He said authorities have already shut down more than 670 illegal scam operations, and that Cambodia is expanding intelligence sharing with international law enforcement partners.
SCMP Economy reported that Hun Manet made the remarks during a week-long visit that included meetings with US Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel.
