China targets rare earth supply with new export controls for European firms
The New York Times reports that China has introduced new export controls for rare earth-related supplies by banning shipments to 14 companies.
The restrictions are aimed at firms involved in areas including chemicals processing, electric motors and defense, according to the report.
The controls extend Beijing’s use of rare earth supply leverage over European industry by limiting access to materials tied to advanced manufacturing and strategic sectors.
