Fed and bank regulators publish 2026 CRA-eligible geographies list
The updated designations rely on local economic conditions, including unemployment, poverty, and population changes, and apply a one-year lag for certain areas that changed status from 2025.
Federal bank regulatory agencies released the 2026 list of certain geographies where bank activities are eligible for Community Reinvestment Act, or CRA, credit.
The list identifies distressed or underserved nonmetropolitan middle-income areas, where revitalization or stabilization activities can receive CRA consideration, based on local economic conditions such as unemployment, poverty, and population changes.
Agencies said the current CRA-eligible status can be used for community development activities for 12 months after the list is published, and that designations follow a one-year lag for geographies that were included in 2025 but are no longer designated as distressed or underserved in the 2026 list.
