Goldman CEO backs Senate CLARITY Act as BitMEX plans Sept shutdown

The Senate bill is expected to face a closely watched vote, while BitMEX will stop exchange services on Sept. 23, 2026 at 04:00 UTC.

Crypto markets rose on July 23, 2026, with Ethereum up 3.1% to $1,874.38 and Bitcoin up 1.9% to $64,950.98, according to Cointelegraph’s daily roundup.

Cointelegraph also said Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon endorsed the Senate’s CLARITY Act ahead of an expected vote. Solomon told Politico the bill is “not perfect” but would create a more level regulatory environment and help digital asset markets mature.

The coverage noted the endorsement comes as some other banking executives have criticized parts of crypto proposals, including provisions that would let firms offer yields on stablecoins outside traditional bank rules. The article said the bill was unveiled by Senate Republicans on Wednesday, and it is expected to require bipartisan support to pass.

Cointelegraph further reported that BitMEX, a crypto derivatives exchange, will shut down after its owner HDR Global Trading Limited decided to close following a strategic review. BitMEX said it will stop exchange services on Sept. 23, 2026 at 04:00 UTC and urged users to close positions and withdraw funds before the deadline.
