Bitcoin Policy Institute to join US State Department digital freedom program
The State Department’s Freedom Tech Excellence Program will place private-sector staff on limited-term assignments focused on issues like online freedom of expression, privacy-enhancing technologies, and countering digital surveillance.
The Bitcoin Policy Institute, a Bitcoin advocacy group, will serve as a founding partner in the US State Department’s Freedom Tech Excellence Program, according to Cointelegraph.
The program is designed to advance diplomatic efforts on digital freedom and freedom of expression by bringing private-sector talent into limited-term assignments with State Department experts, the report says.
Cointelegraph adds that the Freedom Tech Excellence Program will address topics including online freedom of expression, privacy-enhancing technologies, countering digital surveillance, and responsible AI governance.
The article also notes that the BPI, which has operated since 2021 as a non-partisan research and advocacy organization, has endorsed efforts to codify a 2025 Trump executive order related to a strategic crypto reserve, but US Congress had not passed related legislation as of July.
