Argentina logs record May 2026 oil and natural gas output
Oil production rose to 887,227 barrels per day in May 2026, up 0.6% month over month and 19% year over year, while natural gas output climbed to 5.5 billion cubic feet per day.
Argentina recorded new highs for energy production in May 2026, with the country’s oil and natural gas output hitting record monthly levels, according to data cited by OilPrice.
Ministry of Economy data highlighted by OilPrice shows May 2026 oil production reached an all-time high of 887,227 barrels per day. That equaled a 0.6% increase month over month and was 19% higher than the same period a year earlier.
Natural gas production also rose, reaching 5.5 billion cubic feet per day in May 2026, just below the July 2025 daily record of 5.7 billion cubic feet. OilPrice reports the month was up 5.4% versus April 2026 and up 11% year over year.
OilPrice attributes the gains to Argentina’s shale boom in the Vaca Muerta formation, where shale accounted for 70.6% of total oil output and shale gas made up 69.8% of total gas production in May 2026, with both shares described as record highs.
