Gatwick Airport runs out of running water after outage affecting supply
Gatwick said a problem in Horley was disrupting supplies, while SES Water said its Bough Beech water treatment works had restarted after an earlier power outage but still needed to treat water before restoring full service.
Passengers at Gatwick Airport are being hit by a water supply disruption, with toilets reported out of order and restaurants shut at both terminals, according to BBC Business.
Gatwick, in a statement on X, said a problem in the Horley area was affecting water supplies and was under investigation, while bottled water was being made available to passengers and staff and contingency measures were put in place.
SES Water, the provider covering the airport, said its Bough Beech water treatment works had come back online after an earlier power outage, but that it still needed to treat the water before returning supplies. The company added that complications linked to that power outage had led some customers to experience low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply.
The disruption was continuing into Sunday afternoon, with Gatwick saying it was working with the water company to restore supplies quickly, and BBC reporting that passenger travel plans were affected, including a delayed flight and landing-slot changes to reduce the number of flights arriving.
