Zelensky says Russia seeks 30,000 extra troops and missile launchers
Zelensky said preparations for the additional North Korean support are underway in Russia’s Voronezh region near the Ukraine border.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia is seeking an additional 30,000 troops from North Korea to help fight against Ukraine, along with missile launchers, according to SCMP Economy citing Zelensky’s social media post.
Zelensky said preparations for receiving the forces are underway in Russia’s Voronezh region near the frontier with Ukraine, and he added that North Korea is preparing to transfer additional ballistic missile launchers to Russia.
He characterized the alleged transfer as a threat beyond Ukraine, saying Russia is helping North Korea learn how to wage war and gain combat experience with improved weapons.
The report notes that North Korea previously sent thousands of troops to support Russia during the conflict, including help in fighting off a Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kursk region in 2024, and has provided arms since Russia’s invasion began in 2022.
