Ageas Re grows third-party reinsurance business in 2026 renewal season

Ageas Re said its January to July 2026 campaign increased 3rd Party Business inflows by 38% year on year, while emphasizing a bigger Specialty focus and greater use of proportional structures.

Ageas Re, the reinsurance division of Ageas, reported strong growth in its 3rd Party Business during its January to July 2026 renewal campaign even as the firm said market conditions deteriorated faster than expected. The reinsurer attributed the results to higher shares on selected programmes and new business generation, along with changes to its underwriting approach including expanding its Specialty portfolio and increasing its presence in Asia.

Ageas Re said new written business exceeded renewable business during the April to July renewal period, and it renewed two material Partnership contracts during the same window. It added that the mid-year renewal season was notably strong and helped it double its book of business compared with 2025.

Excluding Partnerships, Ageas Re reported that total 3rd Party Business inflows rose 38% year on year. The firm also said expected profitability was modestly below the prior year due to market softening and a mix effect as it deliberately increased proportional business, which it said reduced portfolio volatility and capital intensity despite a higher underwriting ratio.

By line of business, Ageas Re said property continued to be its largest production contributor and delivered strong growth. It pointed to Physical Damage business as a key driver of its 2026 growth in property.
