Andrew and Tristan Tate to stay jailed ahead of Aug. 13 hearing
A US magistrate scheduled a detention hearing for August 13 to decide whether the brothers remain in prison while a potentially months-long extradition process to the UK proceeds.
Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate will remain in prison in Miami for at least two more weeks as they continue to fight extradition to the United Kingdom, where they are accused of rape and sex trafficking, according to SCMP Economy.
A US magistrate, Lauren Louis, set a detention hearing for August 13 to determine whether the Tates should stay in custody or be released during what could be a months-long extradition process, the outlet reported.
The brothers, who have been in prison since July 18, were not required to appear in court on Monday. Their legal team said they want the US government to turn over documents submitted by UK officials to secure their arrest, arguing that the case rests on accusations rather than evidence, as described by SCMP Economy.
The case is part of a long-running international legal dispute involving the Tates across the United States, Britain, and Romania, and both brothers have repeatedly denied wrongdoing, SCMP Economy added.
