BNY Mellon unit added to EU MiCA register as ESMA expands CASPs
ESMA’s third post-July 1 update lists 309 licensed crypto-asset service providers, adding banks and platforms including BitPay, Coinify, and Bleap.
BNY Mellon’s European subsidiary has been added to the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets, or MiCA, register after the European Securities and Markets Authority expanded the roster of regulated crypto-asset service providers. Cointelegraph reports the change came in ESMA’s third post-deadline update following the July 1 transitional deadline.
In the latest update, ESMA added 15 crypto firms to its interim MiCA register, bringing the total number of licensed crypto-asset service providers, or CASPs, to 309. The new entries include four banking institutions, such as BNY SA/NV, the Belgian subsidiary of BNY Mellon, and three German banks.
The update also included digital asset platforms, including BitPay, Coinify, and Bleap. Cointelegraph notes the additions were concentrated in Germany and Denmark, with three new CASPs added in each country, followed by Bulgaria and Latvia with two each.
ESMA also said it made no changes to other MiCA-related registers in the latest update, including the register of authorized issuers of asset-referenced tokens. The expansion builds on earlier post-deadline additions, which included 14 CASPs added in ESMA’s second update after July 1.
