Canada-US Gordie Howe bridge opens in Detroit to move freight

A new Canada-United States bridge linking Detroit, Michigan with Windsor, Ontario opened to lorries, cars and other vehicles on Monday, capping a years-long project that had been affected by international politics, according to the Associated Press via SCMP Economy.
The bridge, built in Canada at a cost of C$6.4 billion (US$4.5 billion), is positioned as a less expensive alternative to the privately owned Ambassador Bridge, which previously had a monopoly on big lorry crossings carrying goods worth billions between the two countries, particularly in support of the car industry.
