Durable goods orders rise 0.3% in June as core stays positive
Excluding transportation, orders climbed 0.6% month over month, and technology-related demand showed strength with computers and electronic products up 3.1%.
New orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods increased 0.3% month over month in June, reversing May’s revised 4.0% decline but coming in below expectations for a 1.6% gain, according to Action Forex.
The report also showed more modest momentum in core categories. Orders excluding transportation rose 0.6% versus a 0.9% consensus, while orders excluding defense edged up 0.3%.
Although headline numbers disappointed, ActionForex.com said the underlying details suggested business investment remained on a positive footing rather than sliding back into contraction.
Durable goods orders have increased in three of the past four months, and technology-related demand stood out, with computers and electronic products rising 3.1%, reflecting continued strength in areas tied to digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
