Former tennis champ Arantxa Sánchez Vicario says her $41M fortune vanished

Former world No. 1 tennis player Arantxa Sánchez Vicario says she lost about $41 million in wealth after trusting her ex-husband to manage her finances, according to an account carried by Yahoo Finance referencing comments on Spanish television.
Sánchez Vicario, a four-time Grand Slam champion, said she focused on playing tennis and did not handle her own financial affairs, adding that the money “vanished” and left her responsible for financial and legal fallout.
The dispute traces to a years-long legal battle with ex-husband Josep Santacana. In 2024, a Spanish court found the pair guilty of concealing assets to avoid repaying debts owed to Banque de Luxembourg, ordering repayment of at least €6.6 million, or a little over $7.5 million at the time of the article.
Yahoo Finance also notes Sánchez Vicario has said she was unaware of any wrongdoing, portraying herself as a victim. It says she initially received a two-year prison sentence but avoided jail time, agreeing to pay 50% of her earnings to the bank while continuing to rebuild her finances.
