Lido upgrade consolidates 8 million staked ether to cut validators by a third
Lido says the move will reduce attestation messages by about 29% per epoch, improving consensus-layer load without changing gas fees or transaction speed.
Lido has started what it calls its largest upgrade since 2023, consolidating more than 8 million staked ether onto Ethereum’s post-Pectra validator design through an optimized backend architecture. The liquid staking protocol expects the change to reduce Ethereum’s total validator count by about one-third.
According to Lido, the consolidation is designed to ease load on Ethereum’s consensus layer by cutting attestation messages across the network by roughly 29% per epoch, even though it will not directly affect gas fees or the speed of transactions for regular users.
The upgrade also transitions Lido’s professional node operators to Curated Module v2, where the 34 existing operators will post locked ETH bonds for the first time. Lido said the added bond requirement is intended to add economic accountability to a system previously based mainly on reputation and track record.
