Stock index futures rise as oil falls, Fed decision and Big Tech earnings loom

Dow and S&P 500 futures gained 0.8%, while Nasdaq-100 contracts rose about 1.6% as oil dropped nearly 7% and investors looked ahead to the Fed on Wednesday.

US stock index futures were higher in early trading Monday as crude oil prices slid and markets headed into the busiest week of the quarter, with a Federal Reserve decision and a heavy lineup of Big Tech earnings on deck.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rose 0.8%, while Nasdaq-100 contracts jumped roughly 1.6% after a choppy prior week that pulled the indexes lower, according to Yahoo Finance.

The move followed a nearly 7% decline in oil prices, with Brent crude futures trading below $86 a barrel, as optimism emerged that US and Iran could restart peace negotiations after pausing fighting over the weekend.

With the Fed set to deliver its interest rate decision on Wednesday, the article said officials are expected to hold rates steady while monitoring inflation progress, though a hike remains possible. It also flagged earnings from Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Apple, and Amazon, plus other major reports including AstraZeneca and Nucor to start the week and ExxonMobil and Chevron later.
