US-China commission plans annual China visits after recent trip
The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission met with US diplomats, Chinese officials, think tanks, and both sides' business representatives, but said it could not meet some technology companies it requested.
A congressional advisory panel focused on US-China relations has returned from a trip to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, with commissioners pledging to make the visits an annual event. The group is the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, an independent body created in 2000 that issues annual reports and recommendations to lawmakers on trade and national security-related policies, according to SCMP Economy.
In a statement, the commission's vice chair, Mike Kuiken, said the panel aims to return at least annually so its analysis can keep pace with a relationship that continues to evolve. The delegation met with US diplomats, Chinese government officials, Chinese think tanks, and representatives from both US and Chinese businesses, the outlet reported.
The commission did not name the Chinese officials it met, nor did it explain why it chose the three cities as stops. It also said it was unable to meet with some technology companies it had requested to visit, according to the SCMP Economy article.
