Worldcoin transitions to paid proof-of-human verification in Phase 3
Worldcoin said it has issued more than 18 million human credentials and enabled more than 450 million World ID uses since launching in July 2023.
World, the iris-scanning identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, said on July 24 it has entered Phase 3 of a five-stage roadmap that shifts away from token rewards and toward selling proof-of-human verification, including for AI agents acting on behalf of users.
In a blog post describing the transition, World said it has issued more than 18 million human credentials and enabled more than 450 million uses of World ID. The project tied Phase 3 to reaching critical scale and initial utility, following the rollout of World ID 4.0, which World describes as enterprise-ready infrastructure that uses zero-knowledge proofs to let developers issue additional credentials.
World said the most consequential expansion targets AI agents, pointing to traffic from agents and agentic browsers that grew 7,851% year over year in 2025. It introduced AgentKit, a toolkit that extends World ID into agentic workflows through agent delegation, human-in-the-loop verification, and agentic commerce, allowing agents to request verifiable human approval for sensitive actions.
Worldcoin also outlined new enterprise and consumer integrations tied to Phase 3, saying it is working with partners including Okta, Vercel, Shopify, Coinbase, Exa, and Browserbase. The project said Zoom is expected to let companies use its Deep Face verification through Zoom's ISV platform within six months, and it described Phase 3 as a business model change where applications will pay World ID fees while protocol usage remains free for end users.
